Interested in learning to row?

Humboldt Bay Rowing Association usually participates in US Rowing’s National Learn to Row Day around the first Saturday of June. This is a quick introduction to the sport of rowing, and participants get to experience getting in an 8-person rowing shell and get out on Humboldt Bay. Since this is a popular event, we open Registration in May.

We have more intensive training available to become a member of our team or to row independently.

Masters Program

The Masters program is available to rowers over 19 years of age. HBRA generally trains a group of new adult rowers during the summer. In 2026, there will be a 6-week training beginning July 6.

Junior Program

The Junior Program is for teens ages 12-18. Generally teens can join the team at any time of the year. Regular practices during the school year are Mondays to Fridays, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. During summer of 2026, there are three 2-week sessions. The regular fall schedule will begin in late August.

Adult Independent Sculling

Adults can join by taking individual sculling lessons at our Adorni Center boathouse. Once certified, you will be given an access code to reserve a boat and to enter the boat and to use the equipment on your own schedule. Individual sculling is perfect for those who prefer to row on their own schedule.
